Meitei Cheingak Meitrabak commemorated 'Manipur Kanba Numit' at Kharason community hall on Saturday.
The observance was attended by Meitei Cheingak president Nongthombam Sanahal, COHSEM secretary Khundrakpam Ashilkumar, BSEM secretary S Jitelal Sharma, Goodwill Christian High School Yaingangpokpi principal Bk Shanti, SSUM president Soraisam Yaima, Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKWF) commander in chief Y Bosan and political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal as presidium members.
The 'Lamyanba Irabot Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award', an annual award given by Meitei Cheingak, were also presented to political activist Langol Iboyaima, writer Jugol Sai and noted Shumang Leela playwright Chana Lukhoi at the occasion.
A song written by political activist Sapamcha Kangleipal, music composed by Nanao Sagolmang and produced by Meitei Cheingak was also release during the programme.
Speaking at the programme, Meitei Cheingak president Nongthombam Sanahal highlighted the significance of observing the day on which the seed of revolution was sown.
When India tried to create Purbanchal state with a hidden agenda, Hijam Irabot revolted and he was forced to go underground, he recalled, while pointing out that attempt to disrupt the integrity of the state is continuing till now.
He urged the people to be united and protect Manipur just like Hijam Irabot had done.
Floral tributes were paid to the photo of Irabot and patriotic songs and cultural dances were performed to mark the event.
