Scheme benefits distributed to retired home guards

Imphal, July 12 2025: Manipur Home Guard Employees Welfare Association (MHGEWA), along with Welfare Scheme Committee, distributed benefits under Manipur Home Guard Welfare Scheme to retired home guard personnel during a function held at GM Hall, Imphal on Saturday.

MHGEWA president Yanglem Mangi, who presided over the event, said that the state government does not provide any pension or retirement benefits to home guard personnel.

In response, the association formed a Welfare Scheme Committee to extend support to personnel who have either retired or died while in service.

"While the financial assistance may be modest, it carries significance for the beneficiaries and reflects the association's commitment," he noted.

According to Mangi, senior officials of the Home Department were invited to attend the programme, but they could not be present citing an emergency meeting of the government.

He drew attention of the government to consider creating the post of a commandant general for the Manipur Home Guard, which has been a long-standing demand pursued since the previous government.

He lamented that although the High Court had directed the government to deliberate on the demand, there has been no progress with issues such as dearness allowance, ration money, seniority lists and promotion remaining unaddressed.

Despite this neglect, he said, home guard personnel continue to perform their duties with discipline, similar to civil police.

A total of 31 retired home guard personnel received benefits at the event, which was attended by members of the association and serving home guard personnel.
