Senapati 'runs for peace in Manipur'

Senapati district raised the voice for peace in the state by organising 'Run for peace in Manipur' Marathon/Cross country on Thursday.
The event was organised by Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) as a curtain raiser to the Senapati District Inter-School Sports Meet, 2024 from August 3 to 7.The Marathon/Cross country was flagged off by Senapati deputy commissioner Mamoni Doley from Karong Bridge and culminated at Traffic Point, Senapati.
Speaking on the occasion, SDSA president Yunuo Peter described a very significant that Senapati denizens called out to all the citizens of the state to bring peace in the state ravaged by ethnic violence for 15 months.
The student leader appealed to let peace and tranquillity return in the state at the earliest.
On the other hand, DC Mamoni Doley, who also ran the marathon, congratulated all winners of the day in both categories.
Mentioning that Manipur has different communities living together, she appealed for peace and unity among its people including Senapati and to live in communal harmony as it is the basic requirement for a peaceful society.
The DC also asked all participants to spread this message for peace even at school and wished the best in the coming games.
In the high school (boys) category, Putuveichao of Grace English School, Khabung Karong won the first position, Lungkimlak of Compassion Residential Academy second and Adhahrii Albert of Savio High School, Tungjoy finished third.
In the high school (girls) category, Veine of Savio High School, Tungjoy finished first, followed by Leshini of Don Bosco, Maram Khunou in second and Chamwiliu Chawang of Mt Everest Higher Secondary School, Senapati in third place.
In the open men's category, H Ngaopulou of Liyai Khunou secured the first position, A Marikho of Chowainamei Khunou second and Thotngacheirin Hunphung Luiyi of Thiwa third, while Kawsi Rai of District Council topped in open women's category as Sayia of Taphou Naga secured the second position and Thaisa of Tingsong Khullen finished third.
