World No-Tobacco Day observed in Chandel

Imphal, May 31 2025: Central Bureau of Communication (CBC), Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Field Office Chandel, organised a "Special Outreach Programme" to commemorate World No-Tobacco Day 2025 at St Paul's Higher Secondary School, BPO Liwachangning.

Held under the global theme "Bright Product, Dark Intention - Unmasking the Appeal," the event was conducted in collaboration with the Private Registered Troupe (PRT) of the Kangleipak Musical Association, Tentha Heibung Maning Leikai.

The event was attended by Rev Fr Benjamin Kodaikeje, principal; Sr Maria Anal, headmistress; Fr Joseph Thohrii; Holly John, assistant teacher; and Sumpi Peter, lecturer at Maha Union Higher Secondary School, Chandel, who served as special guests and resource persons.

Mathew SK Bengam, field publicity assistant, CBC Field Office Chandel, delivered the welcome and keynote address.

He outlined the objectives of the initiative and stressed the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of tobacco use and the need for preventative action.

The resource persons delivered informative presentations on the relevance of World No-Tobacco Day, exploring the event's theme in depth and addressing the causes, usage, and detrimental impact of tobacco on individuals, public health, and the environment.

A cultural performance was presented by the PRT of the Song & Drama Division (S&DD), using creative expression to effectively communicate the message of tobacco prevention.

The event also featured a quiz competition, with prizes awarded to the winners.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Mathew SK Bengam.
