Parishad winds up awards event

Imphal, July 28 2024: Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal celebrated 90th foundation anniversary on Sunday marking conclusion of its 89th annual awards like Upadhi, cash awards and gold medals.

The event held at GM Hall, here was attended by Manipuri literature critic Nongmaithem Tombi as chief guest, Parishad president Longjam Jaichandra as president and theatre artiste Heisnam Sabitri as guest of honour.

In his address, Tombi said Manipuri Sahitya Parishad is one of the oldest cultural organisations of the North East and held in high esteem presentation of Parishad's awards particularly Upadhi much earlier than the Sangeet Natak Akademi.

He said that the Upadhi is not only highly regarded by the people Manipur but also by the government of India and Sangeet Natak Akademi.

Among the Upadhi recipients for the year 2024, Naorem Khagendra was conferred Sahityabhusan and Yumnam Mangi Sangeetbhusan (Mahoharsai).

Other Upadhis included Yensenbam Bilasini Devi (Sangeetbhusan - Matam Ishei), Laimayum Devendrajit Sharma (Sangeetbhusan - Hindustani) , Keisham Pravapati Devi of Tripura (Natyabhusan), Loitongbam Dorendra (Sangeetbhusan - stage Leela), Salam Muktabali Leima (Sangeetbhusan - Shumang Leela), Angom Bino Devi (Shilpabhusan - Potloi), Ningombam Bira Singh from Tripura (Nirtyabhusan), Ningthoujam Khejo (Gabesanabhusan), Okram Manglem Meetei (Kalabhusan - Thang-ta), Henba Tensuba (Kalabhusan - Lai Yekpa), Naorem Gulap Singh Kalabhusan - Lairik Thiba), Sapam Kulabhi (Badyaratna - Pung), Lairenlakpam Yaima (Badyabhusan).

Parishad's cash awards, gold medals and cash awards for books for the year 2024 were also presented to the recipients at the event.
