Ukhrul DEO appeals for peaceful elections

Ahead of the much-anticipated second phase of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, Ukhrul district election officer (DEO)/deputy commissioner (DC) Zuringla Kengoo has announced the district's readiness to conduct the polls scheduled for April 26, while appealing for a free, fair and peaceful election.
In a statement on Tuesday, DEO Zuringla conveyed that all necessary arrangements are in place for conduct of the election on April 26 and expressed hope that no untoward incidents would take place on the day of polling.
She appealed to the public to actively participate in the electoral process and contribute to its credibility.
Recognising the significance of the occasion, Zuringla Kengoo echoed the National Voter s Day theme, Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure' .
She urged voters to make this election an inclusive and participative exercise that truly reflects the democratic aspirations of the nation.
Stating that the theme urged individuals to value each and every vote, she also encouraged voters to play a significant role in the world's largest democracy by casting their vote.
"The Constitution of India guarantees every citizen of India who is 18 years and above the right to vote.
So, I urge every eligible voter to come out and participate in exercising their franchise," she said.
Ukhrul district has two assembly segments namely Ukhrul and Chingai assembly constituencies where there are altogether 93,869 voters out of which Ukhrul AC has 46,199 (M-22,549 & F-23,650) and Chingai AC has 47,670 (M-22,960 & F-24,710) .
Ukhrul AC has a total of 71 polling stations and four special polling stations for the displaced people.
Thirty four polling stations will be manned by male personnel and 37 reserved for women polling personnel.
This assembly segment will have one model polling station.
Chingai AC has 70 polling stations in which eight stations will engage only women polling personnel and the rest 62 by men polling personnel.
It will have one model polling station for this segment.
Facilities for the PwD identified polling stations are well arranged in both the segments.
The DEO/DC also mentioned that 670 polling personnel would be deployed, of which 180 are women for the two assembly segments.
The services of 19 sector officers and 21 micro-observers are in place, along with 414 vehicles both light and heavy for the election.
The total security personnel to be deployed are 13 companies from central forces (10 BSF Coy & three CISF) and 547 police & 357 VDF/HG from the state.
