UTLA chief held with brown sugar

Imphal, October 15 2023:
A team of 39 Assam Rifles apprehended the commander in-chief of proscribed Kuki outfit United Tribal Liberation Army (UTLA) KNO-Seiphu faction with 124.87 gm of brown sugar.
The arrested commander in-chief has been identified as Lemtinsei Singson alias Seiphu (50) s/o Letkhosei Singson of Chiengkonpang village, near SDO office Churachandpur.
According to a report, the 39 AR Technical Headquarters Kadamtala team conducted a search operation at Phaitol village in Tamenglong district on Sunday around 10 am.
During the operation, the team found a Bolero (MN 03 P-1934) parked near the community hall of Phaitol village.
A man standing beside the vehicle was interrogated, wherein he identified himself as Lemtinsei Singson alias Seiphu, the commander in-chief of UTLA KNO Seiphu faction.
Lemtinsei further revealed that he came to Churachandpur in the Bolero on Sunday.
In view of the prevailing situation in the state, the AR team checked the vehicle for any weapons but found a polythene bag at the boot of the car.
On opening the bag around 10 soap cases suspected to be brown sugar were found.
The suspected drug weighed a total of 124.87 gm.
Both Lemtinsei, the seized suspected drugs and the vehicle have been handed over to OC Jiribam PS for further legal action.
Jiribam PS has registered a zero FIR and later handed over the arrested person and the seized items to OC Tousem PS, the report conveyed.
