Imphal, July 07 2025:
Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has appealed to authorities concerned for increasing the upper age limit for recruitment of assistant professor in the Regional Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) to 50 years.
In a release, FESOK education & library secretary Soibam Davit pointed out that autonomous institutions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare such as AIIMS, Guwahati; AIIMS, Delhi; NEIGRIHMS, Shillong; Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Bengaluru; Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry; Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education & Research, Chandigarh, etc., have all set the upper age limit for recruitment of assistant professor to 50 years.
Pointing out that RIMS is also an autonomous institute under the same ministry, the secretary referred to an advertisement issued by RIMS for recruitment of professor and assistant professor on June 19 setting upper age limit for assistant professor to 45 years.
Stating that the age limit of 45 years is due to non-amendment of the recruitment rules since 2004, Davit noted that substantial number of 'unemployed' doctors have'been discouraged by the advertisement mentioning the upper age limit for assistant professor as 45 years.
Davit proposed withholding the recruitment process till the upper age limit has been reviewed and rectified to 50 years similar to the other institutions under the ministry.
