Imphal, May 31 2025:
Taking cognizance of the severe and ongoing flood situation affecting large parts of Imphal and adjoining areas, Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Singpanglup (AIMS) has appealed to the Department of Education to take immediate and compassionate action in the interest of the student community by suspending admissions and postponing examinations.
Amid the widespread flooding which has severely affected normal life, many students are unable to access schools and colleges, with sone struggling with basic necessities, including shelter, food, and communication, stated AIMS secretary general O Amarjit Meitei in a statement on Saturday.
"We therefore appeal to the authorities concerned to suspend the ongoing admission process for government higher secondary schools, as students and parents are unable to complete the necessary procedures under the current circumstances".
He also urged the authorities to postpone all scheduled undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) semester examinations, until the situation improves and students are in a stable condition to continue their academic activities.
According to AIMS, the appeal is made not only on humanitarian grounds but also to ensure fairness and equal opportunity for all students during this time of crisis.
"We hope the government will act promptly and responsibly to support the student community in this difficult hour.
We stand in solidarity with all those affected by the floods and call for urgent and empathetic measures from the authorities," pleaded the statement.
