Imphal, June 28 2024:
Assam Rifles on Friday organised the first edition of TACE-2024 (Tangkhul Arts and Craft Exhibition) in association with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs at Shangshak village in Ukhrul district.
According to PRO IGAR (S), the event is part of the tribal artistes' empanelment drive conducted by TRIFED (Tribal Co-operative Marketing Development Federation of India) to identify, register and promote tribal artistes by highlighting their cultural heritage and providing them with a platform to showcase their artistic skills.
This initiative will also ensure that tribal artisans get due recognition and fair remuneration for their tribal artefacts as the event is being organised with direct coordination from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, and no middlemen are engaged in the trade of these tribal artefacts.
A total of 28 tribal artisans, representatives from Shangshak village council and Ministry of Tribal Affairs participated in the event.
The Tribal Arts and Craft Exhibition attracted a large crowd, including youngsters.
Various tribal artefacts like haora shawls, varao kazei (spears), khairei (swords), kuisikhai (knives), ngalasop (baskets), mayo pasi (head-gears), beadworks, handbags, black pottery items, embroidery items, hand-made scarfs and bamboo artefacts were displayed by the tribal artisans during the exhibition.
A registration of the tribal artisans for subsequent coordination was carried out by the representatives of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The empanelled artistes will continue to get monetary benefits from the Ministry, continued the PRO in a release, adding that the tribal artisans thanked the Assam Rifles for organising the exhibition.
