Licypriya to meet Pope Francis in Rome

Indian child climate activist Licypriya Kangujam from Manipur would be travelling to Rome, Italy, for a five-day visit on Wednesday during which she will meet Pope Francis at the Vatican for the second time, after her last meeting in 2023.Licypriya will also participate in the World's Children Day Celebration, which will be attended by Pope Francis on May 25 and 26 in Rome.
The day was proclaimed by Pope Francis on December 8, 2023, with the organisation of the event entrusted to the Dicastery for Culture and Education.
According to a communique issued by the climate activist, she would be advocating for urgent climate justice, particularly for the global south, including poor developing nations and small island countries in her meeting with Pope Francis and also call for an end to the conflict in Gaza, Palestine, and appeal for reconciliation between the Meetei and Kuki communities to end the pro longed conflict in her home state of Manipur.
During her visit, Licypriya will engage with Italian media personalities and high school students to discuss pressing global issues.
A documentary film titled "Earth for All," featuring Licypriya, Pope Francis, and four other Planet Heroes, was released in Rome on November 28, 2023, centring on urgent need to combat global climate crisis.
Licypriya's primary mission is to secure clean air, clean water, and a sustainable planet for all.
Licypriya would be accompanied by her mother Bidyarani Devi Kangujam, younger sister Irina Kangujam, and six other activists from Africa, the USA, and Brazil, forming her delegation team, the statement added.
