Bishnupur, December 21 2024:
World Meetei Council (WMC) spokesperson Nabakishore Yumnam has stated that the public have no clue on how the government is handling the Manipur issue.
Speaking at the 5th plenary session of WMC held at Hotel Elegance, Moirang on Saturday, Nabakishore Yumnam stated that around 18 lakh Meeteis are living in Manipur, Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh and Myanmar, out of which approximately 14 lakh are residing in Manipur as a major community.
However, since May 3 last year, there has been a big question mark on how long the conflict will last and what will be the future of the community.
Emphasising that the prevailing situation has arisen because of neglecting the past, he asserted that Meeteis should not be afraid of any challenge and have the same courage and determination of the Japanese, who rose up and became a prominent nation even after facing the devastating impact of atom bomb dropped by USA.
Nabakishore also claimed that the government is preparing to conduct NRC in Mizoram, Manipur and Nagaland in 2026, and called upon the people to press the government to conduct NRC in Mizoram first.
Apart from facing the conflict, the community needs to encourage students and sportsperson, otherwise the state will regress instead of growth, Nabakishore said.
He also said that the plenary session was held to unite the Meetei community and CSOs outside the state as well.
The programme was also attended by WMC vice-president H Boyai, WMC Manipur Unit president Y Shyam, WMC Manipur Unit VPs Kh Ratan and Ph Basanta and Salai Kan-ba Lup chairman L Gopal as presidium members.
