Ritual ceremony of Meetei deities held in Mandalay

Imphal, June 19 2024:
A dress changing ritual of Meetei deities Ima Leirarel Sidapi and Ima Panthoibi located inside the Yadana Guu Pagoda in the LatWayMint Taing Quarter of Amarapura Township in Mandalay region, Myanmar, was performed on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by Ip uthou Pakhangpa Lainingkol, Mandalay, Myanmar president N Ngangom Moirangcha, the ritual was conducted under the joint initiative of Federation of Indigenous People's Democratic Movement (FIDM), MMDA, and Iputhou Pakhangba Lainingkol.
While extending gratitude to all who contributed in making the traditional dresses of the deities reach Mandalay, the statement also appealed to all followers of Sanamahism to extend support in performing such ritual ceremonies at other religious shrines of the Meetei in Myanmar.
It also pointed out the need in preserving and promoting Meetei religious and heritage sites in Myanmar as such a step would aid in tracing the roots of Meeteis by the future generations.
The statement also expressed hope that Sanamahism will help in bringing a change to the minority Meetei community in Myanmar in addition to uniting the Meetei community.
It also urged the Manipur government to press the government of India for enlisting Sanamahi religion in the Indian Religious Code, thereby ensuring broader recognition and support.
