Ukhrul, June 09 2025:
Ukhrul district on Monday faced yet another blackout after a technical failure resulted in a complete power outage.
The outage occurred at 3:25 pm when a fault at the 11 KV Mini-secretariat caused a cascading failure affecting the 33 KV incomer and the Hundung sub-station, an MSPDCL Ukhrul Division source informed.
"There will be no power tonight as the Y phase received only 0.1 of its normal voltage," it confirmed.
While restoration was promised for the following day, the source cited staff shortages as a significant obstacle in ensuring timely response and restoration of power.
Meanwhile, recurring outages have fuelled public frustrations, particularly given the district's reliance on a pre-paid meter system that promised reliable power.
While the district headquarters faces frequent power cuts, reports of weeks-long outages in remote areas of the district due to damaged HT wires and other unspecified issues, have also been received, raising growing concerns among the public about the value of paying for electricity.
Residents are calling on authorities concerned to promptly address these persistent power supply problems.
