IDPs mull intense protest, ask CM to clarify

Clarifying that the rally taken out by residents of relief camp demanding resettlement to their respective homes is not instigated by any organisations or individuals, Committee on Protection of Meetei Victims, Moreh (COP-MeV) president Irom Rajendro cautioned of launching intense protest if their demands are not discussed and resolutions passed in the assembly within three days.
After the rally taken out by the IDPs demanding resettlement to their respective homes, they returned to Akampat relief camp, convened a meeting and adopted several resolutions on Thursday.
Speaking in this regard, Irom Rajendro denounced chief minister for misleading in the floor of assembly claiming that protest was instigated by Some people to take political advantage.
Clarifying that the protest of IDP is not related with any political parties, he urged the government not to misinterpret their protest, but take resolute decision about their demands by discussing the same in the assembly, failing which intense protest will be launched.
He also demanded punitive action against police personnel who fired live rounds and tear gas shells on the protestors and assaulted journalist.
Meanwhile, Committee vice president Thoiba Ningthouja told media persons at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday that chief minister's misleading information that the protest by the IDPs was to demand that the displaced persons stay at MLAs' quarters and the MLAs put up at relief camps.
He further demanded the chief minister to name the political party if he has evidence to prove that protest by the IDPs for their resettlement was instigated by political party.
