Imphal, June 01 2025:
The Committee on Protection of Indigenous People's Ancestral Land (COPIPAL) has announced that it will launch an indefinite peaceful protest and protective steps from Monday 5 am, across all ancestral territories of the joint tribes - Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme of Manipur, citing lack .of resolution over the April 5 incident at Konsaram (Konsakhul).
In a press release issued Sunday, COPIPAL reiterated its firm position regarding what it described as an "unprovoked and orchestrated attack" on the villagers of Konsaram.
It alleged that the violent aggression against the Indigenous Naga people amounted to "ethnic violence and attempted genocide", allegedly per petrated by members of the "so-called" Vaiphei people of Kangpokpi district.
The committee stated that despite showing patience and goodwill and allowing ample time for a peaceful resolution, no solution has emerged.
It declared that the upcoming protest is a decisive step toward defending the ancestral land and the Naga people, asserting that it is now compelled to act in order to safeguard their future.
COPIPAL further declared that from this point onward, the three village chiefs - Thangkhulen of Munlai, Thangneimang of L Phaijang, and Haomang Vaiphei of Haraothel village, will be held fully responsible for any untoward incidents that may occur until the committee's rightful demand is fulfilled.
The committee appealed to all communities, civil society organisations and stakeholders to come forward and express solidarity with its cause.
It urged the public to voice collective resentment and stand for a peaceful resolution that protects the rights, identity and security of the Indigenous Naga people.
