Mother, baby die after delivery

Imphal, October 19 2015: Some properties of Shija Hospital, Langol were on Monday vandalized by patient parties after a woman reportedly died while delivering a baby boy.

The deceased has been identified as Khwairakpam ningol Salam ongbi Minashwori (32), wife of Salam Sanjoy of Moirang Lamkhai under Moirang Police Station, Bishnupur District.

The woman already had one three-year old son and the Monday's incident happened when she was delivering her second child.

Sanjoy said his wife Minashwori was admitted at Shija Hospital on October 17 last at around 9.30 pm.

The doctor who was looking after Minashwori was absent during the time when she was admitted, alleged the husband.

The patient parties had been told that Minashwori will have a normal delivery since there was nothing abnormal with her health, alleged Sanjoy.

He said the doctor arrived at the hospital only on Sunday at around 11.45 pm.

At around 12 midnight Sanjoy was informed that his wife's condition became critical and needed to conduct operation.

His signature was taken and Minashwori was rushed to operation theatre, said Sanjoy and added his wife and son died at around 1.30 am after giving birth.

Doctor's late arrival led to Minashwori death and the patient's condition worsened since time was wasted by the hospital authorities, alleged the husband.

After the news of the death came to light, family members and relatives of the patient turned hostile and vandalized some parts of doors, windows and flower pots among others of the hospital at around 7.30 am.

A team from Lamphel Police Station and Imphal Police Station rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

The bodies are still lying unclaimed at the hospital.
