Amur Falcons spotted

Imphal, October 19 2015:
A large number of Migratory bird Amur Falcon has arrived at Tamenglong today, Range Officer, Tamenglong Kh Hitler told The Sangai Express.
Over a lakh of the migratory bird were spotted at the District headquarters and Barak by Tamenglong locals today.
The number is expected to increase in coming days.
The migratory bird, from Siberia and China enroute to South Africa will remain in the State till the end of November, the Range Officer said.
Widespread awareness campaigns and posters have been put up to prevent killing or poaching of the migratory bird.
A dance festival celebrating the visit of Amur Falcon will be held in October 26 under the aegis of local clubs and Departments at Tamenglong, the Range Officer stated.
The bird feeds on the rats, grasshoppers and other insects thereby relieving crops of damage from pests.
Tamenglong CMO and Distrcit Honorary Wild Life Warden Dr Chambo Gonmei assured full protection of the bird during its stay in the State.
