Imphal, May 28 2024:
Meira Paibi Numit
Observation Committee
formed by Poirei Leimarol,
AMWOVA and MEEPWAK organised the 26th Meira Paibi
Day observance at Tharo Devi
ground, Khurai Salanthong,
on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, DM
College of Arts former principal Prof Dr Ch Sheelaramani
expressed her disappointment that the central government has failed to acknowledge the contributions
of Manipuri society towards
the development of India.
Though small, Manipur has
been bringing laurels for the
country in the field of sports
and culture and education.
She highlighted alleged
discrimination and under-development faced by the
Manipuri society, despite
its efforts for the welfare
of India.
The meira paibis
also played a significant role
in defending the rights of
Manipuri people.
The Manipuri society might not
have survived without the
existence and efforts of the
meira paibis.
The meira paibis
will continue to fight for the
welfare of Manipuri society,
she added.
She also criticised Union
Home Minister Amit Shah's
statement that the current
crisis in the state is not an
attack by terrorists but
rather a matter of distrust
between two communities,
calling it very unfortunate
and indicative of his careless
attitude towards the people
of Manipur.
Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi
Apunba Manipur president
Soraisam Memcha remarked
that the crisis in the state has
persisted for the past one
year and it is time the people
understand why both the
state and central governments have been unable to
resolve the issue so far.
The function was also attended by Meira Paibi Welfare Association Kangleipak
president R Rengsongak Koireng as one of the presidium members.
