Khonthang News celebrates 1st foundation day

Imphal, October 19 2024: Khonthang Newsservice celebrated its first foundation day at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday.

The function was attended by Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram as chief guest, Manipur Chamber of Commerce (MCC) secretary Haorokcham Anil as guest of honour and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) former president and Kangleipakki Meira chief editor Wangkhemcha Shamjai as functional president.

In his speech, Khogendro Khomdram stressed the need for verifying any news before publishing/uploading the same.

"People can be easily influenced by fake or unverified news and the narrative could go in the wrong direction.

As such, the efforts made by Khonthang News editor Dhamendra are praiseworthy", he said.

Khogendro also flagged potential professional hazards for those working in the media field, stating that journalists often find themselves in challenging situations while performing their duties.

He then wished that Khonthang News Service persists in its mission of disseminating information to the masses.

Poknapham editor Aribam Robindro recounted that he had been working in print media for around 40 years, while pointing out the key changes he has seen till date.

"At present, one can access any news from anywhere on the planet with just a click, thanks to the internet," he added.
