Tributes paid, RPF conveys gratitude

Imphal, April 14 2024:
People from cross section of the society paid floral tributes to those who were killed during a gun battle with security personnel at Kodompokpi on April 13, 1982, on the occasion of "Athoubasinggi Numit" at the Martyrs' Memorial Complex atop Cheiraoching, Thangmeiband, on Saturday.
Since early morning Saturday, people belonging to different communities including Meetei, Meetei-Pangal, Chiru and Kabui, arrived at the Complex in their respective traditional attires to offer floral tributes.
Ritual ceremonies were also performed during the observance including Thang-Ta salute to the martyrs as a mark of respect.
People also paid floral tributes at the Kodompokpi and Tekcham memorial sites with candle light memorial conducted at Kakwa Beni Leirak and Kwakeithel Moirang Purel memorial site of the martyrs.
It may be mentioned that nine members of proscribed PLA including its then chief Thoudam Kunjabihari of Singjamei Nameirakpam Leikai were killed in a gun battle with the Indian army at Kodompokpi village on April 13, 1982 .
Other members who were killed in the incident were Thoudam Loken of Nameirakpam Leikai, Maibam Pakka of Heirok, Langpoklakpam Pakhanglakpa of Keishampat, RK Khoirumba of Moreh, Sorokhaibam Kameshwar of Heibongpokpi, Khundrakpam Chaobhal of Kwakeithel Moirang Purel, Naorem Rajen of Naorem Leikai and Moirangthem Premkumar of Tera Sapam Leirak.
Meanwhile, the proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) extended its sincere gratitude to people of both hills and valley of Manipur who paid rich floral tributes to martyred revolutionaries on April 13 being observed every year by the outfit as 'Athoubasinggi Numit' .
The outfit also thanked the people particularly members of clubs, associations, institutions and organisations, bar association members, government employees, health officials, students of schools and colleges who paid floral tributes to martyrs particularly at Cheiraoching and other memorial sites by skipping their tight schedules.
The RPF also honoured all the people who shouldered immense responsibility in successful conduct of 'Athoubasinggi Numit' observance particularly media, transport bodies, those in medical profession including doctors and nurses and personnel of Manipur police who did not put much restriction to people coming to pay floral tributes at memorial complexes.
