Imphal, June 01 2025:
Inner Manipur Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam has written to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla expressing concerns over the present flood situation in the state and requested him to declare the situation as a 'state calamity' in order to mobilise appropriate resources and measures.
In a release, Sushil Konthoujam, who is private secretary to the Inner Manipur MP, informed that Dr Bimol also had a discussion with the Governor regarding measures being taken tip, and could be taken up, by the authorities concerned.
Besides the Governor, the MP has also been in touch with the officials concerned since Saturday, including the district commissioners and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) commandant.
He appreciated the measures taken by the state officials.
The secretary informed that the MP also suggested to the authority concerned, amongst others, to mobilise the cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in the state, particularly those who have already been trained by the SDRF, to augment the citizens groups and volunteers who are helping the affected people.
Besides these engagements with officials, the MP has also extended monetary help to arrange food for citizen volunteers who are working selflessly in this hour of crisis.
Meanwhile, All Manipur Muslim Students' Organisation (AMMSO) has expressed profound sorrow and deep concern over the ongoing flood crisis that continues to devastate communities across Manipur.
In a release, AMMSO president Imtiyas Heibokmayum expressed regret that the widespread flooding has displaced countless families, wiped out farmlands, livestock, and homes, and severely disrupted livelihoods.
Children, the elderly, and other vulnerable groups are enduring extreme hardship in unsafe and unsanitary conditions, noted the president.
"We sincerely pray to Allah for mercy and for the swift restoration of peace, safety, and stability for all the people of Manipur.
During this difficult time, AMMSO stands in full solidarity with the affected communities and earnestly appeals to individuals, organisations, and authorities for urgent support and humanitarian assistance," it said.
AMMSO further urged for immediate closure of all educational institutions particularly those conducting examinations that remain open despite the severity of the situation.
