Nagjokpa fumes over slow work progress

Imphal, February 01 2014 : Along with taking stock of the existing condition of the District Jail in Senapati, A Ministerial team which included Francis Ngajokpa, RD & PR/Eco & Statistic Minister; Dr Kh Ratankumar, Works and Transport Minister; M Prithviraj Singh, Parliamentary Secretary of Youth Affairs & Sports/Tourism inspected the Mini Secretariat Sports Complex at Karong, Senapati, which is being constructed by Manipur Development Society (MDS) since 2004 .

Dr Chaltonlien Amo, Chairman of Hill Areas Committee was also part of the inspection team.

While expressing disappointment over the condition of the sports complex, Francis Ngajokpa said the construction work on the complex has been left midway.

Only the pillars have been erected even though the State Government had already sanctioned Rs 32 crore to MDS.

The Minister pointed out that MDS handed over the construction work to a contractor without thinking about completing the construction work entrusted to it.

The matter has already been brought to the notice of Y Ningthem, Director of MDS and other concerned departments.

He went on to say that when Y Ningthem was contacted through mobile phone regarding the matter, the Director had replied that he had no knowledge about it.

As part of the inspection visit, the foundation laying stone of 20th Biennial Tournament cum Cultural Regale of Poumai Naga Students' Union was laid by Dr Ratankumar at Sheemai Maiba village.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Ratankumar stated that the State Government has been taking up necessary measures including administration and maintenance of law and order situation in all the hill districts and added that the government does not differentiate between the hills and the valley when it comes to developmental works.

Informing that necessary arrangement for construction of 8 km Koite-Maiba road stretch under TFC 2013-14 has been already completed, the Minister observed that construction work along the stretches of Maiba Vaofei-Phuba Thapha and Yotiipao-Fhaibung Khunao roads has been going on smoothly.
