Training programmes begin at Andro, Bishnupur

Training programmes on integrated design and technical development project in 'potter and terracotta crafts' and 'Embroidery Craft' were simultaneously inaugurated today at Andro and Bishnupur district headquarters respectively.
Both the training programme of six months duration are being conducted under the sponsorship of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, with Social Development Organisation, Kongba Nandeibam Leikai as the organiser of the training programme at Common Facility Centre (CFC) complex, Andro Kharam Leikai, Imphal East district and Maheikol Ideal Training Institute, Bishnupur conducting the training at RCDS conference hall, Bishnupur.
As chief guest of the inauguration function at Andro CFC, former Manipur University Registrar RK Ranjan Singh noting historical significance of traditional pottery and terracotta designs also stressed on the need for technical inputs to make the designs more attractive and enhance their commercial value.
In addition to preserving the traditional crafts the training programme will enable the participants to generate healthy income, expressed Dr Ranjan.
The training programme under the supervision of empanelled designer (NER) Ranjita Ngangom is being participated by 50 craftspersons.
Directorate of Commerce and Industries' Superintendent (Handicrafts) W Birenjit Singh and Assistant Director (H), M&SC, Imphal T Rollee Vareishim were the functional president and guest of honour of the inauguration programme.
At RCDS hall, the inauguration programme was held with Rural Bank, Nambol branch Manager Naorem Sarat Singh, DIC (Bishnupur) General Manager L Khommei Singh and Assistant Director (Handicrafts) T rollee Vareishim as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Pointing out that the training programme is aimed at enhancing skill of the craftspersons so that the State's economy improves and the artisans could generate handsome income by exporting their merchandise, chief guest N Sarat assured to extend all possible assistance by the Bank for economic sustenance of the artisans.
Delivering the presidential address, L Khommei said inspite of people of Bishnupur district mainly dependent on agriculture for livelihood the training programme would be helpful in providing them additional source of income generation through active involvement in embroidery works during the lean season.
Referring to participation by 40 trainees, Rollee Vareishim said each trainee will be provided monthly stipend of Rs 500 each.
Informing that after completion of the training programme market test would be conducted, he said emphasis should be on maintaining quality, ensuring utility, durability, design and finishing to attract the customers.
According to Maheikol Ideal Training Institute secretary W sunibala the trainees would be endeavour to produce different designs on 40 bedroom items for which export option would be accorded top priority.
The Bishnupur training programme would be conducted under the supervision of the Institute's designer Bikram.
