Imphal, February 01 2014 :
DGP Shahid Ahmed has instructed the Commanding Officers of all battalions of Manipur Rifles (MR) and Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) to train all their inactive personnel at the Battalion Headquarters on daily basis.
According to a highly placed source, the DGP has taken up the crucial step to train the personnel of MR and IRB in view of their prolonged inactivity.
Most of them have become overweight and many might have even forgotten to use their service weapons.
A meeting of all COs of MR and IRB was convened in the chair of DGP Shahid Ahmed yesterday.
During the meeting, the DGP instructed the COs to conduct training of their personnel at the Battalion Headquarters on daily basis for a platoon of 30 personnel each.
The training would include use of arms, foot patrolling, counter-insurgency operations and VIP security.
The training would be crucial for those personnel who have remained inactive ever since they passed out from the training schools.
All personnel need to be trained from time to time to make them physically and mentally fit for enforcing proper law and order in the State, the DGP told the COs during the meeting.
Further, the DGP aims to reform the Manipur Rifles and Indian Reserve Battalion right from the riflemen to the officers by assigning them specific roles and tasks.
On the other hand, some officers of Special Protection Group (SPG) would arrive here on February 3 to train some select State police officials in connection with the security arrangement of the coming Lok Sabha Election.
The trained State police officials would then impart further training to all their subordinate personnel, the source added.
