Committee urges 'groups' to halt monetary demands

The Coordinating Committee on Disturbance Free Educational Zone Demand has appealed to all unlawful organisations to stop monetary demands on educational institutions and not to harass individuals related to education.
In a statement, the Coordinating Committee, which a conglomerate of associations of teachers, students, guardians, and transport operators, urged the government, chief minister, council of ministers and MLAs, not to politicise education.
It also called for framing a law that guarantees at least 220 days of classes per calendar year, avoid targeting of the student community, end corruption, nepotism, and favoritism in education-related matters, and designation of the education sector as disturbance-free zone.
The committee also appealed to leaders of various organisations and revolutionary groups, striving for welfare and emancipation of Manipur but placing monetary demands in the name of armed revolutions, to cease such demands on educational institutions and to stop harassing individuals involved in education.
It emphasised that "Education is a Preparation for Life", also the committee's motto, and further called everyone associated with education, including the committee itself, to refrain from all forms of corruption but to discharge their duties with efficiency and transparency.
The statement also noted that 15 organisations from both the hills and the valley have been observing July 5 as "Disturbance-Free Educational Zone Demand Day," advocating for promotion of a conducive environment to teach and learn.
As part of the campaign, sit-in protests and various forms of agitation have been conducted by students, teachers, and teachers' associations across different parts of the state from July 5 to 27, added the committee.
