Kangpokpi, May 22 2024:
Despite the state government's inability to locate the bodies of the two Kuki-Zo volunteers killed in Phailengmol area of Kangpokpi district on April 13, Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills has resolved to conduct their burial ceremony on May 24 as per the tradition and custom of the Kuki-Zo community.
CoTU general secretary Lamminlun Singsit said, "Failure to find the two bodies of our fallen heroes even after a month underscores the deep division between the two communities, and consequently, we have made the decision to hold burial ceremony to honour our two fallen heroes in accordance with our customs and traditions".
Regarding the programme, he informed that the Kuki-Zo community across Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district will lay down the 'fallen heroes' to rest at the Martyrs' Cemetery at Phaijang on May 24 with the highest honour and tribute.
Lamminlun continued that as a mark of tribute, total shutdown from 9 am to 6 pm will be enforced on May 24 while all government and private institutions in the district shall remain closed on the burial day.
He also appealed to all to understand the sentiment of the Kuki-Zo community and bear with them during the total shutdown.
