World Ozone Day observed in Thoubal

Thoubal, September 17 2024: As in other countries, World Ozone Day was organised jointly by Environmental Information, Awareness, Capacity Building and Livelihood Programme (EIACP) Hub Manipur under the aegis of Directorate of Environment and Climate Change at Heirok Part II Bamol Leikai community hall, on Tuesday.

Held under theme "Montreal Protocol: Advancing Climate Action", the function was attended by Directorate of Environment and Climate Change development officer Dr L Bijen Meitei, who is also the EIACP Hub Manipur coordinator, and educationist and social motivator A Pre-mananda Sharma as chief guest and president respectively.

EBC Club secretary Th Boboy Singh, Tree Planters' Organisation for Save Environment secretary N Bijen Meitei and Eco Network Heirok president Shintha Laishram were also present as guests of honour of the function.

Manipur University Department of Biotechnology guest faculty Dr Leimapokpam Tikendra Singh, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change (wetlands) project assistant Konthoujam Pushparani Devi and development officer Dr L Bijen Meitei also spoke as resource persons during the function.

Speaking at the event, Dr L Bijen stressed the importance of ozone layer in sustaining life on Earth as depletion of the same will be perilous for all living beings.
