Imphal, June 09 2025:
As part of the "Go Green, Go Clean" campaign, Eco Network Manipur, in collaboration withan institution, launched a plastic waste collection drive on Tuesday.
The initiative involves collecting used plastics from garbage dumping sites and handing them over for recycling.
Tuesday's collection marked the 24th occasion on which plastic waste was handed over to Ashok Traders, a local recycling partner supporting the campaign.
Speaking about the initiative, Eco Network Manipur president Sinthangamba Laishram urged the public to stop burning plastic waste.
He highlighted that the burning of plastics not only poses serious health risks and damages the environment but also undermines recycling efforts.
"Burning plastic at disposal sites destroys its recyclability and releases harmful toxins.
It also depletes soil fertility if the plastic is not completely incinerated," he added.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about responsible waste disposal and promote sustainable waste management practices across the state.
