MSF appeals against favouritism in posting

Imphal, February 09 2024: Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has appealed to the government school teachers and officers in the education department not to indulge in favouritism and bribery to help effective transfer and posting of employees for a better future of the society.

MSF observed the 18th anniversary of its academic campaign 'Eikhoi Lairik Ningthina Tamsi' at its Kwakeithel Thounaojam Leikai head office, here, on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, MSF president Hijam Roshan highlighted issues faced by government schools due to lack of teachers and irrational transfer and posting.

Some schools, despite having significant number of students are bereft of teachers while schools with few or no students have significant number of teaching staff.

This issue arises mainly due to favouritism and bribery in effecting transfer and posting of teachers, he said while urging all concerned to do away with such practice and system.

The president also called for strict enforcement of a rationale transfer policy by framing proper guidelines.

Noting that in-spite of India being the 5th largest economy in the world, government schools in Manipur are in bad shape, he reminded all concerned as education sector and human resources are main contributors of a sound economy there is a strong need to pay more attention in this sector.

Roshan also called upon MSF units across the state to focus on promoting quality education in schools including private educational institutions in order to produce bright students, who can uplift the society.

As per the Annual Status of Education Report, published on January 18 last year, the enrolment rate of students in the age group of 6 to 14 years in the state is 67.2 per cent in private schools and 32.25 in government schools.

The government needs to focus on addressing the underlying causes for the low enrolment rate in government schools.

High enrolment rate in private schools affect the economy of the common people, he said, while emphasising the need for increasing enrolment rate in government schools.

The president further stressed the need for ensuring benefits under RTE and adopt grading system instead of marking system to evaluate the learning level of students while adding that this will help in attracting more students to government schools.

All Manipur College Teachers' Association president M Lokendro, All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association president Doren Kha-Nganba, Council of Teachers' Association convenor L Jugindro, All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association president A Keilyani, and Comet School principal Thoudam Devachandra attended the event as presidium members.
