Imphal, December 26 2024:
Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council (MSC) celebrated the centenary of CPI at GM Hall, here, on Thursday.
The celebration was attended by party's State Control Commission chairman Langol Iboyaima, Central Control Commission national member Dr Moirangthem Nara, state secretary L Thoiren and exstate secretary L Sotinkumar as presidium members.
In his speech, L Thoiren said that a political party should not be above the people but amidst the people.
He stressed the need for party members and workers to introspect and retrospect as to whether it still has the people's trust.
"For this, everyone needs to work together while keeping aside all forms of discrimination or differences," he asserted, adding that the centenary would be observed year-long based on 'BJP Hatao, Bharat Bachao' movement.
Directing a tirade at the BJP, Thoiren accused the saffron party of polarising communities, which, he claimed, led to the unrest situation gripping the state for the past 19 months.
Stating that the year-long observance marks a struggle year, CPI-MSC assistant secretary M Joykumar Lu-wang highlighted that various struggles would be carried out during the observance.
Slogans like resolving the conflict, safeguarding the territorial integrity of the state, restoring the special category status and Save Manipur, Save Humanity1, will also be raised during these struggles, he disclosed.
As part of the celebration, a photo exhibition highlighting the struggles and sacrifices of the party since its inception was also organised.
