Imphal East district administration in association with Naharup Gram Panchayat organised Special Gram Sabha cum Orientation Training Programme on PESA & FRA Villages, along with Janjatiya Gaurav Divas observance on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda, at Keikhu Kabui village community hall, on Friday.
Imphal East DC Khumanthem Diana, ADM Dr N Johnson, Kshetrigao ZP member SA Malik, Naharup GP caretaker committee chairperson Th Sanjit, former pradhan Patrick Golmei and village elder Mureinga Kamei attended the event as presidium members.
Addressing the gathering, ADM Dr Johnson highlighted the life story of Birsa Munta, a tribal leader from Jharkhand, who stood against religious conversion and British rule, and how the Modi government decided to observe his birth anniversary as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas to recognise contribution of tribal freedom fighters.
He also spoke on the government's efforts to provide support to bring development among tribal communities.
Apart from awareness sessions on Forest Rights Act, and Panchayat (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act, the programme is offering various facilities such as awareness on Dengue, services like disability certificate, labour card, aadhaar card, CMHT card, and job card registration and rectification.
The district administration and department offices in the district are ready to assist the public in any issue, he said while urging the public to feel free to approach any department for their grievances and seeking services.
The commencement of 150th birth anniversary year celebration of Bhagwan Birsa Munda on the occasion of Janjatiya Gaurav Divas and laying of foundation stone and inauguration of various development projects worth around Rs 6,640 crore in Jamui, Bihar by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi was also telecast live at the venue.
