Senapati, November 14 2023:
As part of the ongoing "War on Drugs 2.0," a team of Senapati district police seized 35 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar, weighing around 421.6 grams, near Mao Gate on Tuesday.
According to the police, at 4 pm near Martyr's Park, Mao, about 2 kilometres south of the Police Station, one Tata-Yodha (white/MN03A-7089) was sighted arriving from Senapati side towards Nagaland.
The pickup truck in question was stopped for frisking and checking.
Songkhanching Haokip (36), son of Nejahoi Haokip of Chassad village, Ukhrul district, was identified as the vehicle's driver after an investigation.
When the car was checked, suspected brown sugar was discovered concealed on the top hood body cover under tarpaulin.
As a result, the DC of Senapati was notified, and a request made to depute one magistrate.
Accordingly, ADM Mao Ningreingam Leisan, executive magistrate, was assigned to carry out the necessary procedures.
The vehicle was thoroughly checked upon the arrival of the executive magistrate and in the presence of witnesses, led to the discovery of 35 soap cases.
The 35 soap cases weighing 421.60 grams (minus the weight of the soap cases) were seized in the presence of the executive magistrate and witnesses by preparing a formal seizure memo.
The detained person was formally arrested at 4.10 pm by following due process.
The seized items included the 35 soap cases containing suspected brown sugar and the Tata-Yodha, as well one Aadhaar card, bearing number 486406249319, of Songkhanching Haokip.
