WTR reaffirms stance on poppy cultivation

Ukhrul, June 09 2025: Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) has reiterated its opposition to illegal poppy cultivation across Ukhrul and Kamjong districts.

In a directive issued on Monday, WTR stated that cultivation of illegal poppy is strictly pro-hibited/banned within its jurisdiction, reaffirming a previous order dated April 10, 2024 issued by the Central Administrative Officer, WTR .

The order also called for strict monitoring and prevention of any form of taxation on poppy plantations, terming such actions as illegal.

According to the directive, the order takes immediate effect.

"Non-compliance to this order shall be treated as wilful defiance which will necessitate stern action as deemed fit," it cautioned.
