Cleanliness drives mark Gandhi Jayanti

Imphal, October 02 2024: As done across the nation, the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, was observed in different parts of the state by conducting cleanliness drives on Wednesday.

Marking the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi also referred to Gandhi Jayanti, the state government observed National Cleanliness Day/Swachh Bharat Diwas at Gandhi Memorial Hall, here, with chief minister N Biren leading dignitaries present in paying floral tributes to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

Ministers, MP, advocate general, MLAs and high ranking civil and police officials also attended the observance and paid homage to the Father of the Nation.

Speaking on the occasion, CM N Biren appealed to the public to contribute their mite in keeping the state neat and clean and further exhorted the people to have belief in non-violence, which had always been advocated by Mahatma Gandhi.

While stressing the need to resolve every issue faced in the state through non-violent and political means, he sought the people's support and dedication in taking the state forward.

Responding to queries from media persons about the two youths who are being held hostage by Kuki militants, CM Biren stated that all out efforts are being made for securing the safe release of the two abducted youths and expressed optimism about their safe return home to reunite with their respective families soon.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee also observed the 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi as well as the 120th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday during which floral tributes were paid to the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Sashtri.

In his brief address, CLP leader O Ibobi stated that violence will never bring any solution as there is no place for violence in a democratic country.

Congress leaders have been demanding both the state and central governments for disarming the two warring communities in the state and initiate talks since outbreak of the conflict, he continued, while enquiring how long the two governments will torture the people with their hidden agenda.

Ibobi highlighted that perseverance, quest for truth and non-violent movement of Mahatma Gandhi freed India from the mighty British and stressed the need of the people to follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi for fostering peaceful coexistence.

Meanwhile, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal officially launched Special Campaign 4.0 aimed at institutionalising Swachhata.

The event coincided with the observance of Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas as a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean and self-reliant India.

Ukhrul district administration observed 'National Cleanliness Day' by organising social services at Mini-Secretariat Compound as a part of Gandhi Jayanti, which also coincided with culmination of 'Swachhata Pakhwada-Swachhata Hi Seva' 2024 campaign.

Along with the observance, the district also joined the mega event of launching Prad-han Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA) by organising a programme inaugurated by additional district magistrate (ADM) Chingai and Jessami P Duna Dua.

During the event, under the district agricultural department, two Self Help Groups (SHGs) and two farmers were provided micro-nutrients and sprayers respectively.

In Bishnupur, the district administration organised a cleanliness drive at the mini secretariat complex with participation of officials and staffers of the district administration led by deputy commissioner Lourembam Bikram.

The national cleanliness day was also observed at Sub Division Offices and line departments of the districts.

Meanwhile, Senapati district administration observed Swachh Bharar Diwas as part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2024 campaign at DRDA conference hall, old DC office complex Senapati under the theme 'Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskaar Swachhata'.

The programme was attended by Senapati deputy commissioner Mamoni Doley, additional DC Nimmi Azing-wungshi Khamarang and ADC Adahrii Maheo among others.

During the programme, Mamoni Doley virtually laid the foundation stone of 13 AWCs under PM-JANMAN in the district.

Awards and certificates of appreciation were also distributed for cleanliness performance by the district administration and sub-divisional offices.

The National Cleanliness Day/Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024 was widely observed in Kakching district as well.

The cleanliness drives were participated by employees under the district administration, personnel and staffers of Kakching police, Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) and BSF stationed at DC Office Complex, Sub Treasury Office, Government Industrial Training Centre, One Stop Centre, Zonal Education Office and Kakching PHE Division among others.

Floral tributes were also offered by officials of Kakching Municipal Council (KMC) on the occasion of 155th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on the last day of Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2024 campaign held as a part of Swachh Bharat Mission.

Chandel district administration also conducted a cleanliness drive at DC Chandel office complex/mini secretariat as a part of Swatchhata Hi Seva 2024 with similar drives carried out at South East Manipur College, Komlathabi.

Meanwhile, Pherzawl district police organised a cleanliness drive to commemorate Swachh Bharat Diwas.

Noney district administration observed the National Cleanliness Day/Swachh Bharat Diwas 2024 cum Swachhata Hi Seva campaign 2024 at Noney DC office complex by conducting cleanliness drive in and around the DC office complex.

The event organised by the district administration was attended by the deputy commissioner Dr Sharath Chandra Arroju, Noney ADM Stiff Khapudang, Longmai and Khoupum SDO M Pourallung Kabui, Longmai SDC P Lanchungpou Kabui, Haochong SDC Jaojiangam Pamei, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO) Singupngam Thaimei, staffers of Noney One Stop Centre, Longmai and Haochong block and District Information Technology (DIT).

A mass cleanliness drive spearheaded by Noney PHED EE Thanchui Panmei in collaboration with Noney police, Longmai Bazar board, staff of various banks, Longmai Bazar Youth Club (LBYC) and shop keepers along with different NGOs namely, Action for Welfare and Awakening in Rural Environment (AWARE), and Rural Institute Community for Health & Development (RICHD) also cleaned the Aga (Ijei) river bank and Longmai Bazar.

Kamjong district joined the country-wide launch of Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PMJUGA) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi marking Mahatma Gandhi's birth anniversary.

A health check-up was also conducted as part of the programme along with distribution of Ayushman card and LPG connection under PMUY scheme to select beneficiaries to mark the occasion.

The programme organised by the district administration at Sadbhavana Mandap, Kasom Khullen headquarters was attended by students of different schools in Kasom Khullen, villagers, village chiefs and secretaries of the surrounding villages.
