Bid to torch Meetei houses foiled

Imphal, July 21 2023:
Unidentified miscreants tried to torch two houses belonging to Meetei community at Moreh town in Tengnoupal district in the past 24 hours.
Taking advantage of relaxation of curfew, some miscreants tried to torch an abandoned house belonging to one Seleibam Ibombi Meitei at Moreh Ward No 7 Turel Wangma Leikai at about 10am Friday.
However, Moreh fire service personnel managed to douse the fire lit by some unknown miscreants.
On Thursday night too, unknown miscreants tried to torch an abandoned Meetei house at Moreh Ward 5 Labuk Leikai but locals put the fire under control thereby preventing damage.
Meanwhile, Meetei people, who fled Moreh and are currently taking shelter at different relief camps appealed to the government to deploy more state forces at Moreh and allow them to discharge their duty so that abandoned houses of Meetei community in the town could be protected.
They also expressed concern over attempt to set on fire the Meetei houses in Moreh and urged government to deploy more CDO, IRB and police personnel in the border town.
