Imphal, July 21 2023:
Condemnations against the bestial brutality meted out to two Kuki women by a mob continued to pour in from different sections of the society and tribal bodies.
The Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) in a release said it is aghast to learn of the unacceptable act of parading the two women naked by the mob.
Not even the worst of criminals deserve to be made to undergo such terrible torture and unfathomable humiliation, said MBC.
This inhuman torture is not on the victims alone but to the collective conscience and consciousness of humanity, it said while adding that every conscientious human being must condemn it in the strongest terms possible as to prevent such atrocities to anyone in the future.
The MBC condemns such heavily heinous crimes inflicted upon the innocent, unprotected and priceless lives, it said while asking authorities concerned to punish the perpetrators and the organisers of such activities according to the law and educate them to behave humanly in a civilized society.
"Deficit of trust, mutual misunderstanding, peace and harmony have been lost and we know we need to work hard to bridge these divisions and wedge to bring back our society to normalcy," it said.
MBC has convened a meeting of all associations under it at Guwahati from August 19 to 21 to grieve together the loss of lives, properties and inhuman cruelties and pray for speedy return of peace and healing through dialogue and mutual understanding, it added.
Manipur State Commission for Scheduled Tribes (MSCST) also expressed shock over the incident where the two women were stripped naked, molested and paraded by the mob.
In a statement, the commission said the unruly and barbaric behaviour perpetrated upon the two innocent women is totally unacceptable in any civilized society.
If such an act is not nipped in the bud, it will continue to plague our society, the commission said.
The commission also urged the State Government to apprehend the perpetrators at the earliest and give most befitting punishment.
Meanwhile the All Manipur Tribals Development Grievances Forum in its note of condemnation said the incident was one of the rarest of heinous crimes committed in a civilised society and it has brought shame to the whole world.
Stating that the perpetrators should not be spared and capital punishment must be awarded to them, the forum also added that the State Government must also be held accountable for the crime.
Rongmei Lu Phuam, Mao Hoho Nagaland, Naga People's Front also joined in to condemn the beastly crimes and sought justice from the authorities concerned.
The civil and political bodies also expressed solidarity to the victims and their families while seeking for justice.
