Union minister lays foundation for DA-JGUA hostels

Bishnupur/Kakching, July 29 2025:
Union minister of education Dharmendra Pradhan, on Tuesday virtually laid the foundation stones for the construction of 10,O-bedded hostels in Bishnupur and Chandel districts under the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan (DA-JGUA) and Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN).
Naree Kalyan Vidyalaya, Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district has been identified for the construction of a hostel, 50-bedded each for boys and girls, under the DA-JGUA scheme.
The initiative aims at uplifting tribal communities through education and infrastructure development.
Bishnupur deputy commissioner Pooja Elangbam, attended the virtual foundation laying ceremony at the school organised by the Directorate of Education (Schools) .

Speaking on the occasion, DC Pooja Elangbam expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Education for the initiative, highlighting its potential to significantly benefit the students.
She stressed the importance of education as the pillar of society, underlining the need for continuous efforts to strengthen the educational system.
The DC stated that strengthening the education system is essential for building a better future and nurturing a responsible society.
She also urged educators to focus on holistic development, rather than limiting learning to academic performance alone.
Calling for a more empathetic approach, Pooja said, teachers need to listen to students' concerns, guide them with patience, and encourage them to grow - rather than scolding them for minor mistakes.
The event was also attended by Education Engineering Wing (EEW) chief engineer Yumnam Bochao Singh, Bishnupur ZEO Atom Gu-namani, and officials concerned.
Similarly, the foundation for a 100-bedded DA-JGUA Hostel at the Maha Union Government Higher Secondary School (MUGHSS), Chandel was laid on Tuesday at the school s campus.
The foundation stone was unveiled by Chandel additional DC, Md Firoj Khan, at the Administrative Block of MUGHSS in the presence of EEW EE I Premananda, Chandel ZEO in-charge Hb Starson Anal, MUGHSS principal in-charge Kl Warson Anal, lecturers of the school, students and well-wishers.
Construction of the hostel, funded by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, will be implemented by the engineering wing of Education Department.
Addressing the event, Md Firoj Khan informed that the 100-bedded hostels, 50-bedded each for boys and girls, will be constructed under DA-JGUA scheme.
He also expressed confidence that the hostel will be vital in the enrolment of more students to the school and improve the educational system in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, EEW EE I Premananda assured to complete the construction within eight months, so that they could be put to use in the next academic year.
He also disclosed about approaching the North East Council (NEC) for fund provision to improve the school's infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Hb Starson Anal described as very fortunate that Chandel has made the cut for the centrally funded hostel project.
"Chandel is the only aspirational district in the state and we should transform the aspirational district to an inspirational district," he exhorted.
Besides teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the institute, the event was also attended by village authority members of Japhou and Riverlane, SMDC member Noah Langhu, who is also the chief of Lambung village.
