Imphal, November 16 2024:
Seeking accountability for the "inaction" of the State and Central Government that led to the brutal and inhuman murder of women arid children who were abducted by the Kuki militants, Thawai Mirel Women Wing has demanded immediate resignation of all elected leaders.
The brutal killing of the six abducted women and children including an infant is an act of evil and pure terrorism.
While this calls for immediate action against the perpetrators, the State Government and the Centre have done very little.
The elected leaders must bear the responsibility and resign on moral ground for failing to protect innocent women and children, said Thawai Mirel Women Wing.
The six who were abducted and killed by Kuki militants are Yumlembam Rani Devi (60), Telem Thoibi Devi (31) and her daughter Telem Thajamanbi (8), Laishram Heitonbi Devi (25), her son Laishram Chingkheinganba (2), and her youngest child, Laishram Langamba (8 months).
The three women and three children including the toddler were abducted by the Kuki militants from Jiribam on November 11, and days later, their bodies were fished out from a river near Manipur-Assam border.
At Manipur Press Club, Imphal today, Thawai Mirel Women Wing's co-convenor, Paonam Sanahanbi accused the State Government and the Centre of remaining silent even when the women have been raped and killed along with the innocent children.
She said a "war of extermination" is being waged by Kuki militants against the Meitei community and even women and children have not been spared in their onslaught.
The Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister should tender resignation for the Centre's failure to protect its own citizens, women and children and end the 18-month-old conflict.
Manipur has become "a land of death" and N Biren is its "King", Sanahanbi said.
"How long will the CM of the dead hold his chair? He has often told people to watch his actions.
It turns out his action is slowly erasing the [Meitei] community," Sanahanbi said.
The Government and the elected representatives of the people have all failed.
Now is the time for the masses to come together and take a final decision.
The time has come for people to act and make a final stand, she added.
"When Kuki terrorists have snatched babies from mothers' bosoms and killed, there is no reason left for mothers to stay idle but face the terrorists," she said.
She also called on the people to unite and come out to protect Manipur's integrity.
"It is our duty to protect and safeguard the land we were given by our forefathers.
We must face the enemies who seek to destroy Manipur.
If we fail to wake up and take a final stand, we will lose our land and our identity," Sanahanbi said.
She added Thawai Mirel along with the people will march in the front and face all foes who seek to undermine Manipur's integrity.
Sanahanbi also decried the biased approach of some of the Central forces in handling the ongoing crisis and urged the Centre to withdraw them from the State.
