Maram Union expresses gratitude to DC Senapati for honouring tradition

Imphal, September 15 2025: The Maram Union has extended heartfelt appreciation to Deputy Commissioner Senapati, Mamoni Doley, for presenting a traditional Maram Shawl to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his maiden visit to Kangla Fort, Imphal on September 13, 2025.The gesture, hailed as the first of its kind from the Maram community, was hailed as a moment of immense pride for the Maram PVTG (Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group).

It symbolised the passing of ancestral heritage to the highest authority of the nation.

"Our culture, identity, and heritage are imprinted in this gift," the Maram Union said in a statement.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Modi, the Maram Union welcomed the PM-JANMAN scheme as a holistic approach to improving the socio-economic conditions of PVTGs, who are considered more vulnerable due to slower development and unique cultural characteristics.
