Imphal, July 15 2009: Around Rs 199.35 lakh out of Rs 3 crore sanctioned for construction of sewerage and drainage under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Mission (JNUM) by the Sewerage and Drainage division of PHED has been spent on construction of 119 drainages in Greater Imphal area.

This was stated by PHED Minister TN Haokip today on the floor of the Assembly while responding to a question raised by opposition MLA O Joy.

On being asked by the MLA why the Minister has been drawing fund despite his statement made during the last Assembly session saying that construction of drainage will be stopped, the PHED Minister replied that the construction works has been taken up after due consultation with the concerned engineers on the request of local MLAs.

Further, MLA O Joy said that the construction of drainage in Langthabal and Patsoi Assembly Constituencies has been done without the knowledge of the local MLAs.

Education Minister L Jayentakumar said that following the cabinet decision to upgrade nine high schools to higher secondary schools, the Somdal High School and Phungyar High School have also been upgraded to higher secondary school.

He said the government has initiated a process for the recruitment/appointment of principals and lecturers in the two upgraded higher secondary schools.

The Education Minister was replying to a question raised by MLA Dr Khasim Ruivah.

Replying to a question by MLA Ng Bijoy, IPR Minister TN Haokip said on the floor of the house that two cameras and two cameramen have been engaged for the coverage of the session of the Assembly by the DIPR.

The recorded Assembly proceedings have been telecasted on DDK, Imphal since 1997 to inform the people of the proceedings.

TN Haokip said there has been a 1-crore project for the procurement of equipments for the DIPR.

He further informed that the DIPR will initiate a programme to impart training on technical know-how to cameramen of the DIPR.

Minor Irrigation Minister N Loken informed the house that the MI department has implemented 11 MI schemes and 7 state plans in Tamenglong district during the year 2007-09 .

He was replying to a question raised by MLA Awangbow Newmai.
