Imphal, June 14 2025: Manipur Chamber of Commerce & Industries (MCCI) in coordination with Mission Meitei (a charitable trust) organised a discussion session on 'Manipuri language learning through subtitle and promotion of Manipuri films and Shumang Leela in South East Asia' at Hotel Classic Grande on Saturday.

The inaugural session of the discussion session was attended by BABINA group of companies chairman Dr Thangjam Dhabali as chief guest, Mission Meitei trustee and retired IAS officer RK Nimai as president and International Federation of Film Critic, India chapter executive member and former DIPR director Meghachandra Kongbam as guests of honour.

MCCI president Dr Basudev Singh also attended the session as a special dignitary.

In his speech at the session, Dr Thangjam Dhabali said market of Manipuri film is very small and limited but it Could be expanded by giving subtitle to languages of South East Asia like Myanmar and Thailand having similarity with the people of Manipur.

Despite a small and limited market, Manipuri films bagged various awards in international and national levels, he said, adding that more producers would emerge if talented directors and artistes of the state are motivated in the right direction.

On the other hand, Meghachandra Kongbam said talents of Manipuri artistes are ranked higher than other North Eastern states and time has come for holding discussion among stakeholders and authorities on expanding market of Manipuri films.
