'Will take action if Centre's response unsatisfactory'

Imphal, January 11 2025: Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur Leishemba Sanajaoba has said that he is waiting for the central government to do what is needed with regarded to the conflict.

If the government fails to do so, he will join hands with all other indigenous communities and do what is needed to save Manipur.

He made the statement as the chief guest at the observance of the 18th death anniversary of Luching Purel Chingsubam Akaba' jointly organised by Wakhallon Manaba Apunba (WAMA) Kangleipak; Meetei National Front (MNF); Luching Purel Chingsubam Akaba Ningsing Lup (LUKANI) and R Suisa Trust, at his final resting place in Wakha Leima Ching on Saturday.

As part of the observance, floral tributes were offered to the portraits of Chingsubam Akaba and Tangkhul leader Rungsung Suisa.

The MP also inaugurated the newly constructed 'Integrity Hall' at the Shrine of Integrity complex.

In his speech, Sanajaoba said that he is waiting and watching the central government's actions with regard to the conflict.

If the actions fail to meet the expectations, then he will join hands with the indigenous communities of both the hill and the valley and do what is needed to save the Manipur, as it is our responsibility.

He then went on to recount the contributions and sacrifices of Chingsubam Akaba and Tangkhul leader Rungsung Suisa in building unity between the hill and the valley, while emphasising the importance of the placing the memorials of the two leaders at Tangkhul Hongman village and Leima Ching.

He urged all to work together to realise the two leaders' dreams of a united Manipur.

Regarding Manipuri language and script, Sanajaoba expressed regret on not being able to include Manipuri language in the classical language list, but assured to continue to pursue the matter until it is included in the list.

He also expressed firm belief that the Meetei Mayek script would be printed in the next currency note series, while informing that he is pushing for allowing civil service candidates to appear the examinations in Manipuri language using Meetei Mayek as the medium.

He further assured to urge the government to include Chingsubam Akaba's ife history in school textbooks.

He also urged all for preserving the age old religion, language, script and culture left by the forefathers and for filling "Sanamahism" in the religion spot during the next census.

He appealed to the authority concerned to allow the citizens to select the religion of their choice in the next census.

All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association president Laishram Joy Khuman and R Suisa Trust join secretary Peach Makung also spoke on the occasion.

Presided over by WAMA president Moirangthem Naokhomba, the observance was attended by R Suisa Trust chairman Athot Ruivah, Tangkhul Hongman village chief Mathankhui Zimik, Tangkhul Naga Wungnaolong president Tennyson Kashung, Tangkhul Naga Sanaolong president Thingreiphi Lungharwoshi, HERICON president Yumkhaibam Surjitkumar Khuman, MUC VC Prof Paonam Gunindro, Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board vice-president Bidyapati Senjam (Wakhal Lamjingba), MEELAL president Khaidem Ingocha and DESAM president Laishram Romesh Meetei as guests of honour.
