JDDC members to meet CM

Jiribam, July 24 2013: A 17-member team of Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) left Jiribam for Imphal today to meet Chief Minister Okram Ibobi to press the State Government for creation of a full-fledged revenue district of Jiribam.

The team was led by President of JDDC H Mema Devi.

Talking to media persons before departing Jiribam, Co-Convenor of Jiribam W Dinesh Meitei said that local MLA Th Devendra had invited the JDDC members for having talks with the Chief Minister at the end of July.

The JDDC would strongly pressure the State Government to materialize the points laid down in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between JDDC and State Government.

The Committee is also prepared to launch intense agitations if the demand for Jiribam district is not fulfilled at the earliest, he enjoined.

It may be mentioned that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between JDDC and State Government on November 9, 2011 in presence of leaders of civil society organizations.

State Government, in the signed MoU, had agreed to upgradate Jiribam subdivision into a full-fledged revenue district at an early date after the submission of the report of Committee on Reorganization of Administrative and Police Boundaries.

It had also agreed to upgrade the existing Borobekra Revenue circle into a revenue subdivision along with a block division including posting of an SDPO.

The government had also agreed to construct a library building with funding from Raja Ram Mohon Roy Library Foundation, Kolkata.

The government would also be transferring all the legally permissible powers of the Deputy Commissioner to the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam in respect of Jiribam including funds of MGNREGS.

It had also agreed to upgrade the existing Gularthol police outpost into a police station and transfer all the legally permissible powers of the Superintendent of Police to the Additional SP Jiribam in respect of Jiribam.
