The promotion of theatre has been mooted in hill areas of the state to response the enthusiasm of theatre lovers of the hill areas, Thanin Leima, a theatre director said.
Talking to media persons today at the Iboyaima Shumang Lila Sanglen, Thanin Leima said that the 45-day theatre workshop programme at Tongou village in Ukhrul district held recently under the extension programme of National School of Drama (NSD), New Delhi has greatly left an imprint on the minds of the participants who had never appreciated the art before.
She said the programme was attended by Tangkhul film makers, artists who have responded to the programme well.
She said though the people love performing art, they have no proper theatre platform.
The Tangkhul film makers have decided to bring out drama based on the community's culture after deliberate discussion and interaction on the culture and traditions of the people, she said.
She further said that they will be trained in Imphal and shown various prominent theatres.
Anam, a Tangkhul film maker, who also participated in the workshop, said the workshop will impart vast knowledge on theatre world to the trainees in the workshop saying that it is a great achievement on the part of the organisers.
Anam said that the young trainees were taught on how to perform in public adding that it has also provided benefits in film making.
