Kangpokpi, June 19 2024:
Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District has expressed appreciation to Union Home Minister Amit Shah for leading a crucial high-level meeting, which was convened to assess the current security landscape amidst escalating ethnic tensions in Manipur.
CoTU stated that the absence of any political connotation, ground assessment of the army, paramilitary and intelligence apparatus, which is devoid of any political influence of the state at this critical juncture, is highly commendable.
Furthermore, CoTU emphasised that due to the absence of effective law and order and the deliberate exemption of the Armed Forces' Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the valley under all 19 police stations, deployment of central security forces in the state is crucial for recovering the arms and ammunition looted from the state armouries.
Looking ahead, CoTU expressed optimism for "a sincere political settlement that would establish a Union Territory with a Legislature for the minority Kuki-Zo community, whose historic contributions to the nation-building of India must not be in vain" .
Emphasising the Kuki-Zo's pivotal role alongside Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army (INA) during the independence struggle, CoTU stated that no Indian can be more patriotic than the Kuki-Zo community, who fought alongside the INA.
The majority of soldiers who sacrificed their lives were from the Kuki-Zo community contingent from the north-eastern states, it claimed.
