Hackathon on 3D printing held at MIT

The first phase of the Hackathon being conducted by Guwahati-based government agency, Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON) on 3D printing was held on Friday at Manipur Institute of Technology (MIT), Manipur University.
The programme was at tended by 10 teams comprising 80 people in total.
The participants showcased their talent on 3D printing technology with their innovative ideas.
Among them, three winning teams were awarded Rs 11,000 each.
Manipur University vice chancellor Prof N Lokendro Singh, School of Engineering dean & MIT principal Prof N Basanta Singh, IIT Roorkee professor Varun Sharma, MIT professors Dr Th Ibungom-acha Singh, Dr Kh Jolson Singh, Dr Ng Peter Singh, Dr Romesh Laishram, Dr Rajeev Rajkumar, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) associate director Abishek Dhar and Niraj Pandey, among others attended the event.
The winners will be guided and groomed for the second round of hackathon along with winners from different states.
They will also be offered expert help to refine their talent and ideas.
The second phase will see the release of the main hackathon at the all-India level.
The participants in this phase will be able to convert their competition winning concept to the original 3D printed version.
The final winner, who will create the most appealing and innovative 3D printing idea, will be awarded with the most attractive cash prize of Rs 50 lakh and many other gifts.
The winning idea will be established and used in the Northeast with the initiative of partner educational institutions.
The hackathon has been devised by Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON) to choose and nurture the talented youth of the North- eastern region.
It has been taken up in collaboration with other government agencies located in Guwahati under the Digital Design and Third Printing Centre of Excellence in Electronic Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) project.
The first phase of the hackathon began in Assam on June 7 and is being held in every capital of the North-eastern states including Sikkim.
It will be held in Tripura University, Agartala on June 17 next followed by Mizoram on June 21 and Assam University, Silchar on June 25 .
