Imphal, November 13 2021:
While denouncing the non-distribution of UGC pay slips of college teachers in the state even after four months of an order on the same was issued, Federation of Government College Teachers' Associations (FEGOCTA) has cautioned of launching agitations if the state government fails to provide the pay slips by November 27.Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Saturday, FEGOCTA president Dr A Pishak Singh informed that a meeting of members of FEGOCTA's Executive Committee and Teachers' Association of Government colleges was held on Saturday, wherein various resolutions were adopted.
The resolutions include to demand the state government to provide the UGC pay slips of the government college teachers by November 27; to implement the order issued on July 4, which was issued after being approved by the state government for a total of four times; to end the discrimination against government college teachers; and to launch various forms of democratic agitations if the government fails to honour the resolutions by November 27, he added.
Dr Pishak then conveyed that FEGOCTA is yet to receive response to a letter it wrote to the government concerning the matter on November 3.As such, the Association Will decide on its future course of action after getting suggestions from the Teachers' Association, he added.
The president continued that the prolonged delay has led to feelings of discrimination and demoralisation among the teachers.
Although the AG Office has sought a clarification from the government two months ago, the government is still continuing to stay silent.
In addition to suspicions of intentional delaying tactics being used in the implementation of 7th UGC Pay, it is questionable why the government is refusing to implement the same, especially after the cabinet first approved the same in 2019, he remarked.
Dr Pishak then appealed to the authority concerned to provide the UGC pay slips at the earliest to ensure smooth function of the colleges in the state, post Covid-19 pandemic.
