Bodies welcome Thadou Convention resolutions

Different organisations have welcomed the resolutions adopted at the Thadou Convention 2024 held in Guwahati on November 2, stating that the decisions testify affirmation of the Thadou community's commitment to preserve its unique identity, culture, and heritage, showcasing resilience and unity amidst historical challenges.
In a statement, People's Alliance for Peace and Progress, Manipur (PAPPM), has commended the declaration that positions the Thadou identity as a separate and sovereign cultural entity, distinct from the politically-motivated Kuki identity' .
"By rejecting imposed identities and clarifying the distinctions of the Thadou people, the resolutions honour a proud legacy passed down through generations," said the Alliance, while expressing support for the Thadou community's firm stance against misrepresentation, appropriation, and actions that undermine Thadou identity.
Emphasising dignity, justice, and unity among all communities, PAPPM recognised the community's commitment to peaceful coexistence.
"The call for accurate and respectful recognition, free from political impositions, aligns with principles of self-determination and respect," the statement said.
Furthermore, PAPPM applauded the Thadou Convention's condemnation of violence, human rights abuses, and divisive agendas, advocating for human dignity and non-violent resolutions.
It maintained that the Thadou community's dedication to a future grounded in peace, justice, and equal representation resonates with Manipur's collective aspirations for harmony.
PAPPM also acknowledged the significant peace-building initiatives by the Thadou Community International (TCI) in Jiribam, where their endorsement of the peace process and commitment to dialogue has fostered reconciliation among various communities, including the Meetei, Hmar, Thadou, Paite, and Mizo.
TCLs support for safe and dignified resettlement of displaced residents underscores a commitment to justice, safety, and solidarity, it noted.
In addition, the alliance commended the Thadou community for its open letter to chief minister N Biren Singh on August 8, which reflects the resilience and empathy of the Thadou people while reaffirming a vision for a peaceful and inclusive future.
PAPPM underscored the importance of respectful identification of all communities, emphasising a shared aspiration for unity built on mutual respect.
Voicing the same sentiment, Kongpal Chanam Leikai Development Organisation (KCDO), in a separate statement, expressed full solidarity with the Thadou community, honouring their enduring commitment to peace, cultural integrity, and the rightful acknowledgment of their identity.
It hoped that these declarations and efforts will inspire harmony, equity, and understanding among all communities in Manipur.
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) also conveyed appreciation to the Thadou Convention for supporting the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, in recognition of its importance in protecting the indigenous communities and upholding the state's cultural heritage.
JCILPS praised the Thadou community's proactive stance-on the issue, underscoring strong commitment to the welfare of all Indigenous communities.
The committee also commended the endorsement of the state government's anti-drug initiatives, acknowledging that drug-related issues affect every community and threaten social cohesion.
"This support reflects a shared dedication to ensuring Manipur's safety, security, and future stability," a statement of JCILPS said.
