Imphal, June 05 2014:
All Manipur Anti-Drug Association (AMADA) today staged a protest demonstration here after submitting representations to the Governor, Chief Minister, MACS and other authorities concerned over implementation of 'Link Worker Scheme' meant for people living with HIV/AIDS in the interior hill areas of the State against the guidelines given by NACO.
Link Worker Scheme was introduced with Society for Promotion of Youth & Masses (SPYM) as its nodal agency in collaboration with MACS in 2011 in the State to cater service to people living with HIV/AIDS in remote places of the hill which do not have proper facility for connectivity.

However, AMADA has accused MACS and other related Government agencies of violating the guidelines given by NACO while implementing the scheme.
A large number of AMADA volunteers demonstrated in front of the main gate of RD Wing, Lamphelpat to register a protest against the wrong policy of the MACS and Government agencies entrusted with the scheme.
Padma Leima, president, AMADA Mayai Loishang, who was also among the protesters, said that as per the guidelines provided by NACO, the responsibility for catering service under the scheme should be entrusted to the NGOs based in the nearest areas.
She also said that the media should be allowed to involve while selecting or naming such NGOs for the work.
The agitating AMADA members pledged that more protest will be held over the issue in the event of the Government's failure to address it at the earliest.
At the demonstration, the AMADA members held several placards that read "Bring solution to Link Worker Scheme issue, "Don't extend the contract period of MACS Joint Director, TI Abhiram until the issue is resolved" and "Don't delay the inquiry conducted into the issue" .
